Garth Brooks’ Musical Career

Everyone tickles at the mention of the word music, as many scholars and philosophers once described it as one of the things that makes the world go round. When it comes to country music however, no one has ever broken the record held by Garth Brooks.

Singer, guitarist and song writer, Troyal Garth Brooks was born February 7, 1962 and holds one of the most stunning success stories in the industry.

Brooks once worked as a club bouncer and his first attempt to enter the musical scene may have been unsuccessful. However, he has returned and earned the limelight when he was discovered by a recording scout when he appeared as a last stint in the showcase and offered him a contract.

Imagine the combination of country and rock music with high energy stage performance. No one can give you that level but Garth Brooks. He claims to have been influenced by James Taylor, George Jones and even rock bands such as Queen and Kiss. This kind of approach has leaded him to dominate the country music industry and become a part of the mainstream circle, all at the same time.

Debuting with his first album in 1989, Garth Brooks signed with Capitol Records and released his self-titled first album. This has already reached the second peak in the country’s album chart and at the same time, grabbing the 13th slot on the Billboard top 200 album chart, of the same year.

All in all, Brooks has released six albums and each album has successfully topped one from the other. All six albums from 1989 have earned a diamond status in the United States, selling over 100 million albums.

He is the best selling male solo recording artist in the US.

  • Garth Brooks (10× platinum),
  • No Fences (17× platinum),
  • Ropin’ the Wind (14× platinum),
  • The Hits (10× platinum),
  • Sevens (10× platinum)
  • Double Live (21× platinum)

Brooks’ musical career even spawned and has earned him a total of 20 records; including 10 studio albums, three compilations and three more Christmas albums along with 3 box sets. Moreover, he has grabbed several important awards as recognition to his success. He won two Grammy awards, a stunning number of 17 American Music awards and the RIAA Awards as the best selling solo album artist of the century in the United States.

At the same time, Brooks’ live concerts and performances have also been successful. A concert held at the New York City Central Park in August 7, 1997 drew a crowd up to 1 million people.

After dominating the music charts for more ten years, Brooks announced his retirement in 2001 and ended his relationship with Capitol records in June 2005. This was followed by a deal with the exclusive distribution from Walmart. In 2009, he has again started performing at the Wynn Las Vegas. Brooks agreed to a three-year stint for a number of performances and he has played sold-out performances all throughout his residency at Wynn Las Vegas.

In 2013, he  also partnered with CBS and went for a live broadcast and earned 9.33 million viewers, claiming the number one spot on the night of November 29, 2013 – a feat not to be scoffed at.
