Taylor Swift’s Musical Career
Taylor Swift is arguably the one of the most famous female solo singers in the world. With her girl next door looks, incredible voice and poetic lyrics, Swift has amassed an army of fans that call themselves ‘Swifties’. Many know her for her catchy hits such as ‘You Belong With Me’ and ‘Shake it Off’, but Taylor’s career spans back way further than that.
Hailing from a the sleepy town of Wyoming in Pennsylvania, Swift knew that she wanted to be a singer and performer from a very early age. However, her hometown was not the place to be seen and heard so at the tender age of 14 she moved to Nashville in order to pursue her dreams. The move paid off as she was hired by Big Machine Records as a songwriter and singer. The signing shook the music world as Swift was the youngest ever performer to be on Sony Music House Publishing Books.
During this time she worked on her self-titled debut album which was released when she was just 16 years old. The album features a number of country-inspired songs that speak about love, loss and teenage struggles. Five songs were released from the album including ‘Picture to Burn’ and ‘Should’ve Said No’, but it was ‘Teardrops on My Guitar’ that became Swift’s best selling song off of the album which charted in the Billboard Charts at number 49 and stayed in the charts for 8 weeks.
The success of the album lead to Taylor Swift performing a tour of several huge venues across the United States and opening for musical greats like Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Brad Paisley. Her second Album, Fearless, was more of a pop country crossover which features hits such as ‘Love Story’. The album reached a larger audience and became the biggest selling album of 2009. In 2012 she released Red, a pop-focused album filled with catchy tunes like ‘I knew you were Trouble’ and ‘Never Ever getting Back Together’.
Her most recent album, 1989, has been a huge success and has sold more copies in the opening week than any other album in the world has in the past 12 years! Her talents have earned her numerous awards and accolades with over 30 million album sales and 80 million digital downloads. Her fame shows no sign of slowing with the upcoming taylor swift tour and appearances around the globe. Fans should jump at the chance to see this beautiful musical legend perform her smash hits.
